They spoke of the facebook page the Open House I attended last week, were you at the meeting? It is one method of communicating which I have found helpful.

The Facebook Group is for Clinton MIddle School families so that current information/announcements can be passed along. It is monitored by a volunteer from the CMS volunteer program. It was an idea that was presented to Mrs. Sargent and some teachers as a way to post announcements and relay information until they figured out who would be responsible for the CMS website (budget cuts ended the stipends for those jobs). One of the people who used to be responsible for the updates is still doing training and still trying to maintain the site.
Cass1 is a parent with children not at CMS so she would not be aware of this group. Her children are at CES so the announcements are not relevant to her.
The CMS website as far as I know was created by a web designer not Clinton Middle School. There is a help desk for the site so if you want you can send me the specifics on navigation and I just checked the site and the calendar is up to date through September - but email me what sections are not up to date/current or missing information and I will give them to Mrs. Sargent.
Believe the only way we can make change is to be specific and go right to the source. I am in the school copying every Friday and will be happy to bring your suggestions to Mrs. Sargent and we can go from there and maybe make a difference- thetaylortrio@hotmail.com

John,
Thanks for writing the letter that I was thinking about as I read these posts. Please allow me to sign yours and support what you wrote. You said it better than could have. Thanks.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate that.

Maybe they could just use their own website to get info to the parents/community rather than starting Facebook pages and parent blog pages. Seems like a waste of money to have a website that is never updated or hard to navigate. Would be nice to know about how the new schedule works at CMS and that the students were put into homerooms this week. Who knew there was a fundraiser at McDonalds last night?? Not me...a parent of CMS students. Also, I would imagine it's the first place any interested transfer or school choice family would look for info on the school system.
My son told me about the McD fundraiser night, and I heard it from Mrs. Sargent, either through a connect ed message or during her presentation at open house for the middle school. As is mentioned above, Mrs. Sargent talked about the FB parent page at the open house. She said it was a volunteer effort to help pass things along. It is not an official CMS page, to my knowledge. Just another informal avenue to pass along info.
Once again, some on this forum are demonstrating once again, that when it comes to Mrs. Sargent, no good deed will go unpunished!

You are wrong JRW. I have no ill will towards Mrs. Sargent, or any other administrator. Why can't each dept. at the various schools update their own portion of the website...without getting extra compensation for the same? There are no CMS sports schedules since 2010, the kids in the pictures of the CMS site are now juniors and seniors at CHS. I was not able to go to the Open House because of another important commitment that night. Guess I missed everything. Why can't the info be on the website for people with jobs and other children that may make it impossible to be at an Open House night? Just a thought. Maybe CMS could start emailing a Daily Bulletin like they do at CHS. It is extremely helpful.

Will ask about sport schedules being posted and updating pictures on the CMS site.

Laura Taylor.
I know there have been some comments that Laura's comment above was meant to be an attack at me, but it's not. She was responding to my comment when I asked "there's a facebook page?" and some one else responded "ha, ha, ha, that's exactly what I mean".
Laura was just saying that there was no way I could know about it, because my kids aren't in CMS. And she's right that the announcements wouldn't be relevant to me, because they are announcements for the middle school.
Laura and I are friendly, and I don't take her comment in any bad way whatsoever.

I can also respond - in no way would I say something about Carrie - we are friendly - she has helped me in many things and I appreciate who she is and what she does. . It was more of a statement of - I am not included on a site for CHS because my children are in CMS/CES. Sometimes a statement is just a statement. It is not meant to be negative or positive it is just a statement. thank you Carrie for responding.

Why is there sense of entitlement about every single morsel having to be spoonfed automatically to everyone? You complain about the school's outreach, but also fail to attend one of two most important nights in the school year (open house)!!!
Can the website be better? Sure it can. But given the lack of administrative help at the school, do I want the principal updating Web pages, sending out daily newsletters, doing daily connect Ed messages, and posting to Facebook constantly? Or do I want the principal out in the school doing the real work of a principal?
We all want the principal, and superintendent, and teachers to do their job. Well guess what, this is a TWO way street, and we as parents have to step up to the plate and do OUR job. That involves going to open house, going to parent-teacher conferences, talking to our kids, and talking to the principal or superintendent about our concerns. If we sit around and complain and don't show up when asked, then we are doing a large disservice to our kids and the schools.
Is that wrong to think???

John, respectully, I see your point, but not everyone can go to these things. Some may work at night, some may have little ones at home and don't have babysitters. I myself couldn't go to open house on Wed because my daughter was home sick with a fever. So although I truly do see your point, it's not always that simple.

1. Not entitlement. Just looking for info the way the rest of the world does in this century. Open House = chaos. If there is important information, it should not be only given at Open House. What happens if you have multiple children and can't get into the classroom when each teacher is giving their presentation?
2. Yes..everything can always be better. Why can't each dept be responsible for their portion of the website..i.e. English Dept. update the English section, Administrators update the Admin section, coaches and ADs update the Athletics section...and so on. Also, how about just doing it because it's part of your job and you don't get extra compensation for it? There is a Daily Bulletin emailed each day by the ONE admin. asst. at CHS. It is extremely helpful.
3. Communication. There was a mandatory meeting for CHS Fall athletes (two of which I have) scheduled months ago. CMS scheduled their Open House the same night and time. Lack of communication is the reason I could not go to CMS. Don't come back on me that athletics is not as important as Open House. I went with the event that was scheduled first and that I had already committed to. That's a trait I try to instill in my children, if you make a commitment, stick with it. I also emailed all of the teachers of my CMS children and told them I would not be attending. Don't know why I need to justify my absence to you though?
Off this topic now, have to get back to work so I can be home in time to do MY job as a parent.

Maybe a different tact is to see what other schools are doing. My son goes to Nashoba, and even as a regional school. their website and their communications are WAY better than ours ( and we only have 3 schools). I can check his attendance records, his grades, his homework assignments, see if there is enough money in his lunch account, etc.
We should be able to do the same things...We don't need to recreate the wheel, just "borrow" from somewhere else.
And...before everyone jumps down my throat about how much more money Nashoba has than we have, My point is; We shouldn't have instituted the Iparent system in Clinton if we didn't think we could keep it up and current..
