Does anyone know anything or anyone on this commission?
I have a few questions to ask them.
#1 is why the Clinton Youth Football organization isn't playing on that field this year.
Isn't it still a field we all pay for and technically designated an "athletic" field, rather than just a baseball field?
Where would the CYF play at home if not on fuller?

1st I've heard of that. Was there something in the paper?

I just got a call from CYF- They have worked out an agreement to let the CYF play on Fuller Field this year ( YEAH). There will be a change-
The concession stand will be run by the FF commission- NOT the CYF volunteers ( as I did last all last year) All proceeds from the concession go to the Fuller Field commission, Not to CYF ( as they did in the past)
I guess it helps to put thing on the forum...Answers came in seconds!!!

This is my sons first year.. I'd guess it's not a 'good thing' that the CYF is not getting the proceeds from the concession?

But it is a good thing for the town to collect concessions since there is not a user fee to use the field yet they require maintaining....i.e. purchasing a new baseball net

Tom- I believe the Little league and the CYF do have to pay to use the field- although it may be minimal (which is where some of the "user fees" to play those sports go)
The CYF getting the proceeds was a good thing, but there are other fundraisers they do..plus the user fee and the raffle tickets help. To be honest- I am glad that the CYF volunteers don't have to man the concession stand- I have done it for 5 years, and can tell you it is not the best of jobs.
There is also a "voluntary" admission fee when you come to watch any CYF game at Fuller. People are usually standing with buckets at the front gate collecting donations.

I am almost 100% positive that because the concession stand was completely redone (read: lots of $$$ invested) by the Little League. The folks in charge of the stand approached the CYF and asked if they would be willing to cough up some money to be able to use the stand for the football season and CYF declined.
As much as volunteering to work the stand during the season isn't all that glamorous, doing so does help to generate some much needed funds for CYF. Not having a concession stand at football games is going to stink! Just my opinion though.

I thought they were having the stand just not being run by CYF volunteers?
Is there a concession stand at the school football field (I have never been to the new field)? If so why wouldn't CYF go there so they could use the stand and bring money into their organization? I apologize, this is my sons first year so I do not know how many things are run.

I thought Mr. Dobek stated at town meeting that no fees were charged even to organizations such as the semi pro football team who uses Fuller which is why the town cough up funds to purchase new netting?

The $100 fee for CYF I am pretty sure is for the uniform, etc.

I will look into it to confirm, but I am pretty sure there is a fee charged to use the fields. Especially those with lights on them. In fact, I was made aware of a charge to use the Vale Street field when the little league (and the men's and woman's softball teams) was there a few years ago, I was surprised.
As I understand it, the concession stand will be open for CYF games, just manned by Fuller field commission people. As far as I know, the concession stand is not owned by the Little league, even though they (supposedly- but not verified) helped pay to fix it up. It is still town property and should be able to be used by all teams.
The town was asked to cough up money for new netting because it wasn't in the FF commission budget to do so that year and the nets needed to be replaced.
In terms of CYF using the high school football field. Since it is CYF and not a school team, they would need permission from the School Administrative offices, who may or may not be willing to let it get that much "non school team use".
My opinion is- Either way all the CYF Clinton residents pay for Fuller field or the school fields (through taxes) so it shouldn't matter. But there are always personalities involved, and that sometimes makes easy things difficult.

Let's not forget that over the past 2 (3?) years, the Town taxpayers have "chipped in" $43,000 to redo the field.
It sure would be nice if the Fuller Field Commission posted the fees that they charge for the use of the filed to the various organizations. I would hope that the fees are calculated so that the long term maintenance and operation of the Field is fully supported by the users of the field, with a minimal (or no) subsidy from the Town taxpayers.
However, I'm not going to hold my breath...

Also, if the FF Commission is running the concesion stand, who is running it? The Town isn't paying anyone to run this, is it? I would hope not...

Although, looking at it another way, we as residents already pay the FF commission each year as part of our town budget to maintain and upkeep the fields. Why would we need to pay again if there is a town team that wants to use the field?
IMO: The proceeds from the concession stand (both the CYF and the little league games) should go back to the FF commission to help offset the costs of upkeep on the fields, if they are going to man the concession stand. It SHOULD NOT go to the Little league or the CYF. They man the stand, they should keep the proceeds to make sure both fields, the fieldhouse and the concession stand are maintained.
And, again in my experience- the concession stand "manning" has always been a volunteer job- not a paying job.

The thing is, it is not a town team but a private organization.

Not entirely...These teams are made up of (almost solely) Clinton residents, so it is a "town" team, that is sponsored by a larger organization (almost like charters or franchises). They need to function on their own. Not to mention, the people responsible for these groups and sitting on the board and running the leagues, are Clinton men and women. They represent a autonomous group of people soley responsible for their "franchise"if you will.
I think if you asked most people, the CYF, and the baseball leagues ( T ball, minor, little, babe ruth, legion) they would consider themselves town teams.
I also think that in order to be a part of these larger organizations, you need to be able to show you have dedicated places to play. Nothing simple about it, that's for sure.

i have used the field for spring and fall babe ruth games in the past and was never charged a fee. the only requirement was liability insurance and coordinating schedules so that two teams from different leagues (legion, stan musial, babe ruth , etc) wouldn't have conflicting schedules
